Recording and privacy
- Why permission is needed
- The microphone records only while an answer is active. Camera is not requested for ordinary practice.
- Whether recording is stored
- The equipment-check sample stays on this device. Answer audio you finish and upload is stored privately so transcription and scoring can run.
- Retention period
- Uploaded answer audio is available for up to 7 days. Transcripts and reports may remain in your account history. Audio expires automatically. Signed-in learners can also delete an attempt’s recordings early from Speaking history; transcripts and feedback remain.
- Who processes it
- BandScore stores the attempt. Uploaded audio may be processed by configured speech and AI providers — OpenAI transcription and/or Azure Speech pronunciation assessment when those integrations are enabled — solely to produce practice feedback.
- Effect on report verification
- Ordinary Speaking practice does not create a Verified Mode integrity summary. Microphone use is required only so your answers can be scored for practice feedback.
- Quiet-room guidance
- Use a quiet room, place the microphone 15–30 cm away, silence notifications and avoid Bluetooth switching during an answer.
- Saving and recovery
- Each completed answer is saved immediately. If the network fails during upload, the page keeps that answer in memory and retries when the connection returns. Refreshing during an unsent recording cannot preserve the audio.
